Wonkiology

The art and science of how your body tells its story through movement

Wonkiology is where movement, posture and personality collide. Every tilt, twist, slide and shift is a clue. Every step is data. Every pattern is an opportunity.

If you’ve ever thought, “Why does my body move like this?” or “Why does that old ache never quite go away?” you’re in the right place.

What Is Wonkiology?

Wonkiology is a movement philosophy that treats your body not as a stack of parts, but as a living conversation.

Your body forms movement patterns to get you through life: injuries, habits, stress, desk-hours, old sports glory, and the odd heroic weekend. Those patterns don’t lie; they just hang around long after they’re useful.

Wonkiology reads those patterns, maps how your body prefers to organise itself, and guides you back toward movement that feels natural, powerful and efficient.

Think of it as restoring your original operating system.

Why Wonkiology Exists

Most approaches chase symptoms. Wonkiology chases truth.

Pain, stiffness, fatigue or a dip in performance rarely come from the place where you feel them. They show up where your body is overcompensating for something else.

Wonkiology looks at how your whole system behaves in gravity:

  • How you stand

  • How you walk

  • How you rotate

  • How you stabilise under load

From there, we build a clear, personalised map back to comfort, strength and flow. No guesswork. No generic “fixes”. Just your body, finally understood.

Not Just Posture

  • We go beyond “sit up straight” and look at how your body really uses every joint, muscle and foot contact to keep you upright and moving

Not Just Rehab

  • We’re not chasing pain around your body. We’re restoring the behaviours that stop it returning.

Not Just Performance

  • Yes, you’ll move better and feel stronger. But you’ll also understand why your body behaves the way it does.

The Wonky Compass

Your movement navigation system

At the heart of Wonkiology is the Wonky Compass: a movement map that reveals how your body prefers to navigate the world.

Every client begins with a Wonky Compass session, where we explore four key movement behaviours:

Tilters

Bodies that love to lean. We explore how you side-bend, load one side, and manage those subtle “I’m always over here” habits.

Twisters

Rotators by nature. We look at how your spine, hips and ribs share rotational work… or don’t.

Sliders

The gliders in the system. These patterns show how joints translate and how well you can “shift” within your available space.

Shifters

Weight movers. We track how you pass your mass from foot to foot and how your body organises balance and momentum.

What Happens in a Wonkiology Session?

A Wonkiology session feels less like an appointment and more like a guided investigation. We explore how your body stands, walks and loads itself in real time. You’ll discover patterns you may have never noticed, yet have been influencing every movement you make.

A typical first session may include:

  • A conversation about your history, injuries, lifestyle and training

  • Standing, walking and movement observations

  • Testing how different joints tilt, twist, slide and shift

  • Mapping your personal Wonky Compass

  • One or two meaningful drills to take home and explore

You won’t leave with a huge exercise sheet. You’ll leave with targeted, specific movements that genuinely shift how your body behaves.

Who Is Wonkiology For?

Wonkiology suits anyone who senses that something in their movement story isn’t quite right.

It’s a good fit if you:

  • Have persistent pain, stiffness or tension that never fully resolves

  • Feel “wonky”, uneven or imbalanced when you walk, run or train

  • Suspect old injuries or past surgeries still influence how you move

  • Want long-term change, not temporary symptom relief

  • Are curious and willing to learn about your own movement habits

It can help if you’re:

  • An everyday human wanting to feel more comfortable

  • A runner or gym-goer with recurring niggles

  • A thrower, lifter or athlete chasing better efficiency and power

  • Someone told “everything looks normal” despite ongoing issues

What Can Wonkiology Help With?

Wonkiology doesn’t label or diagnose. It works with patterns, behaviours and adaptations. It often supports people dealing with:

  • Foot, ankle, knee, hip or back discomfort

  • Shoulder or neck tension that keeps returning

  • Movements that feel blocked, limited or weaker on one side

  • A sense that your gait or posture is “off” or compensating

  • Old injuries you’ve never truly recovered from

  • Repetitive strain from sport, work or daily habits

If your situation sits outside my scope, I’ll always say so and help you find a suitable next step.

Wonkiology in Three Steps

Wonkiology takes you from confusion to clarity through a simple three-step process.

1. Observe

We start by watching how your body behaves in gravity: how you stand, walk, shift and react. This creates the first clues about your unique movement story.

2. Map

Using the Wonky Compass, we map how your body uses — or avoids — tilting, twisting, sliding and shifting. This becomes a clear picture of your compensation patterns.

3. Re-Educate

We introduce new movement experiences so your nervous system can create better options. These are small, specific drills that help you feel safer, more balanced and better organised.
